To understand the causes and to control harmful blooms of the giant Nomura??s jellyfish Nemopilema nomurai, it is essential to study the seed population (benthic polyps) and its environment. To locate the habitat of polyps, the first step is to find ephyrae shortly after detachment from polyps. We found five ephyrae of N. nomurai of 1?C2?mm diameter for the first time from plankton samples collected at two sites, one specimen in the northwestern East China Sea (32°12.3??N, 123°12??E) and the other four specimens in the Yellow Sea (34°05.8??N, 121°50.0??E), on 22 and 26 May 2011. From the developmental state and water temperature of ca. 16?°C at the sampling stations, the collected ephyrae were estimated to have detached from polyps in early May of the year. Considering the increase of water temperature which induces strobilation and the direction of transport in the northwestern East China Sea and in the Yellow Sea, the locality of the seed polyps of the present specimens is probably the sea-floor close to the Changjiang River mouth and along the coast of Jiangsu Province. 相似文献

Wood-based panels such as plywood, oriented strand board, particleboard, and medium-density fiberboard are used for roof, wall and floor sheathing materials in residential construction. However, the service life of these panels is still unknown due to the lack of long-term durability data. In this paper, test results from six different indoor exposure experiments were integrated to investigate the long-term durability of wood-based panels. The indoor exposure tests lasted for a maximum of 10 years, providing the panels with the changes in moisture content that ranged between 5 and 18%. The reduction in mechanical properties was determined to be in the range of 0–16% for the bending strength, 3–22% for the modulus of elasticity, 11–31% for the internal bond strength and 0–8% for the nail-head pull-through strength. No reduction was recognized for the lateral nail resistance. Furthermore, the concept of deterioration intensity (DI) based on the moisture content history was introduced to predict the long-term durability of the panels, and various calculation methods for DI were discussed so as to increase the correlativity of this property with the reduction in a mechanical property. 相似文献

Carotenoids exert beneficial effects on human health through their excellent antioxidant activity. To increase carotenoid productivity in the marine Pennales Phaeodactylum
tricornutum, we genetically engineered the phytoene synthase gene (psy) to improve expression because RNA-sequencing analysis has suggested that the expression level of psy is lower than other enzyme-encoding genes that are involved in the carotenoid biosynthetic pathway. We isolated psy from P. tricornutum, and this gene was fused with the enhanced green fluorescent protein gene to detect psy expression. After transformation using the microparticle bombardment technique, we obtained several P. tricornutum transformants and confirmed psy expression in their plastids. We investigated the amounts of PSY mRNA and carotenoids, such as fucoxanthin and β-carotene, at different growth phases. The introduction of psy increased the fucoxanthin content of a transformants by approximately 1.45-fold relative to the levels in the wild-type diatom. However, some transformants failed to show a significant increase in the carotenoid content relative to that of the wild-type diatom. We also found that the amount of PSY mRNA at log phase might contribute to the increase in carotenoids in the transformants at stationary phase. 相似文献

Vientiane, Lao PDR, has been subject to extensive and ongoing urbanization plans, including development of natural marshes and residentialization of paddy fields into suburban areas, despite natural marshes playing a vital role in treating wastewater from urban areas. Therefore, it is important to understand the current situation regarding the nutrient balance in these natural wastewater treatment systems to predict future conditions and design appropriate measures against water quality deterioration. However, limited data are available in Vientiane on the hydrological characteristics of water and nutrient runoff that flow into marshes through drainage canals. In this study, we conducted a periodic survey of drainage canals and Mak Hiao River in the wastewater catchment system surrounding Vientiane during the rainy and dry seasons. We monitored the discharge of surface water at 21 observation sites and analyzed water quality of nitrogen, phosphorus, and total organic carbon. These observations revealed that the concentrations of dissolved nitrogen and phosphorus were significantly higher at sites in urban areas, followed by sites in the main river basin and those in agricultural areas. Dissolved nitrogen and phosphorus concentrations varied with runoff discharge, especially in urban and river basin sites, with lower concentrations in the rainy season and higher concentrations in the dry season. On the other hand, we found no significant differences between the rainy and dry seasons in nutrient concentrations in the agricultural basin. Finally, we proposed measures to counteract the deterioration of water quality during dry seasons and simulated the impact of these measures. 相似文献

Pacific bluefin tuna (Thunnus orientalis) has high market value, but its wild populations have decreased in recent years. The broodstock of Pacific bluefin tuna that were hatched artificially and reared under aquaculture conditions is beginning to be used for production. The creation of broodstock with commercially valuable traits, such as rapid growth, is therefore of great interest. Genetic linkage map‐based identification of markers associated with quantitative trait loci (QTLs) facilitates marker‐assisted selection (MAS) breeding and allows efficient genetic improvement of broodstock. Single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP)‐based genetic linkage map construction using the genotyping‐by‐sequencing method can expand the number of mapped markers and help identify growth‐related QTLs. In this study, we constructed sex‐specific maps for 24 linkage groups consisting of 677 SNP and 651 microsatellite markers. The total lengths of 93 progenies in the mapping population followed normal distribution, with an average length of 9.4 mm. We performed composite interval mapping in the mapping population. QTL analysis revealed one significant QTL in LG10 on the female linkage map. The genetic linkage map—the second such map generated for Pacific bluefin tuna—and the growth‐related QTLs detected in this study will be useful for tuna aquaculture MAS programs. 相似文献

This study investigated the effect of feedings taurine‐enriched rotifers on the growth and development of larval red sea bream (RSB). Rotifers incubated in taurine‐enriched water at a taurine concentration of 800 mg L?1 (T‐800) and 0 mg L?1 (T‐0) were fed to larvae from 3 to 20 days after hatching (DAH). Notochord length, body weight and specific growth rate of T‐800 group were significantly greater than those of T‐0 at 14, 17, 9–11 and 18–20 DAH. Taurine content of larvae in the T‐800 group increased rapidly from 11 DAH and thereafter remained significantly higher than T‐0. Flexion larvae firstly appeared in both groups at 8 DAH, however, at 20 DAH post‐flexion larvae were significantly more abundant in T‐800 than T‐0. While nucleic acid and protein contents (μg mg?1 wet fish) showed remarkable changes, ontogenetic growth in RSB larvae stage was observed to switch from hyperplastic growth to hypertrophic growth with the start of the flexion stage. Although a similar change in nucleic acid contents was observed between the two groups, the protein content (μg fish?1) and protein/DNA ratio of T‐800 remained higher than that of T‐0 during the hypertrophic growth period. These results suggest that dietary taurine accelerates the growth and development in RSB larvae especially during hypertrophic growth (flexion stage) after the early hyperplastic growth. 相似文献
